KÉKFRANKÓ

KÉKFRANKÓ

What is KÉKFRANKÓ Brand’?

We applied traditional, passive withering (drying) processes (on straw bed, in casks and by hanging the clusters on wires) on Kékfrankos grapes. Then we aged the brandy distilled from barrel fermented organic Kékfrankos wine on this raisin bed. This process allows every aroma of the grapes to unfold, resulting in the unique color and flavor of this organic brandy.

KÉKFRANKÓ truly matures over time, and over the years, it increasingly brings out the characteristics of the grape variety and the unique features of the technique we applied—probably for the first time in Hungary.

KÉKFRANKÓ Grape Brand’ was made in collaboration between BioVitis Winery, led by Barnabás Kovács, and szabadonbalaton.

How can you get the KÉKFRANKÓ Brand’, and what are you supporting?

By donating 30 000 HUF (80 €) or more, you will receive a bottle of limited-edition KÉKFRANKÓ organic distilled wine as a gift, while smaller donations come with other unique szabadonbalaton gifts, such as the chance to try the szabadonbalaton water chestnut compote.

Your support contributes to the Balaton-Friendly Garden project, which showcases conservation-focused, small-scale vineyard and orchard care practices, and the szabadonbalaton initiative, which promotes the preservation of the unique Balaton landscape and sustainable viticulture.

Why is this important?

The vineyards and gardens around Lake Balaton are connected to the lake’s water system and ecosystem, not only in the lakeside areas. What happens in the vineyards affects the landscape and, through it, the living system of Lake Balaton. Therefore, it’s crucial how we care for them. The Balaton-Friendly Garden project showcases conservation-oriented garden and land management options and provides advice.

Viticulture and winemaking around Balaton are key elements of the landscape, including small-scale, homestead-style cultivation. Caring for and preserving the vineyards contributes to maintaining the landscape’s character and biodiversity.

The Balaton-Friendly Garden project highlights viticulture and winemaking methods that consider conservation aspects, helping to preserve the traditions of the Balaton cultural landscape without compromising on quality, while ensuring sustainable farming practices with the help of professional experts.

By cultivating our own gardens and vineyards in an ecologically sustainable manner, we can do a lot to protect Lake Balaton. What can you do to take good care of a small-scale garden or vineyard? For more information, visit the project page of Balaton-Friendly Garden.
